This is going to sound harsh, but the sushi I just had was without a doubt the worst sushi of any sushi restaurant in Grand Junction, and not as good as most supermarket sushi. Really disappointed. Not recommended.

Pleasant surprise! This place is fun, great atmosphere and the food is awesome! Came here with an open mind as the location has been lack luster in the past. I realize this should not have a bearing on anything, but the reality is that it does. Waitress was extremely attentive. Chef did a great job! I have been to many similar places like this all over the world. This one is no better and certainly no worse. For Grand Junction, CO, it is absolutely a home run! We will definitely be back! Loved every aspect of the experience. Highly recommended!

Very good tonight. The chef was amazing. "tony" I think, was able to accommodate everyone's request (some of the guests at our table were quite picky & annoyN) while pulling of stunt after stunt with the knives, eggs, fire, & our food this guy prepared everything to each of our specific requests. A couple Volcano beverages & we call it a job we'll done.

They offer Tepanyaki and a sushi menu. The Tepanyaki Chefs are okay but not the grandest showmen. Offerings are extensive but we had to share 1 sushi menu and 1 sushi special roll card among 5 people. That delayed our ordering. They were over half empty so they could have given us more menus. Also, when my brother needed a knife we were told they don't have any. Then someone finally located a butter knife. The sushi was adequate but nothing special and high priced for what you receive. Service was average. They have their own parking lot.

I'm only rating the sushi here. It's terrible. Very low quality fish, and hugely overpriced for what they provide. I also find it very suspicious that my albacore nigiri and yellowtail roll appeared to have the exact same fish in them. And the fact that it took a half hour, to get take-out of 3 nigiri and one roll, was absolutely ridiculous. I travel to Grand Junction on a regular basis, and always like to get sushi when I travel, but I will never be eating here again.

A huge reason, if not the only reason, to go to one of these restaurants is the experience. The experience is always the same no matter which Japanese steak house I go to. We get the same tired jokes and tricks no matter if its on Panama City beach in Florida, Clark St in Chicago, IL, The Tabor Center in Denver, CO or in this case, Grand Junction, CO. You see some non fancy spatula and fork work. You see the "egg roll". You see the egg in the hat trick and a bunch of fire that makes everyone go ooooh and aaaaaah. At Tepanyaki in Grand Junction, that experience is lackluster at best when you have a seat right in front of the "chef". Where my family of 4 were sat, the experience was non existent. The chef only looked our way when plating the food. For me this is no big deal, for my wife and kids, this was a problem. We were in between 2 separate grills in the no mans land of seating. Near a grill, but not the grill that our food was cooked at. The "chefs" that cooked for us and the other grill/table were clearly confused about who got what food from whom. The menu seems to have a decent selection of shrimp, steak, chicken, salmon, and any combination of those you can think of for the teppanyaki. They also serve sushi, sashimi, and nigiri. We ordered a tuna roll for my daughter and I had the dragon roll as an appetizer. Colorado surprisingly offers pretty decent Sushi in some places. This is not one of them. The fish tasted like something you would buy at the local Sam's club in the frozen food section. When placing your order of teppanyaki at Tepanyaki, you will be asked if you want rice (fried or steamed) or noodle. Be aware this is an extra $2.75 charge for any of the three on top of the $19-$26 shrimp, chicken, steak, or salmon entree. My daughter was the closest to the "chef". She was served her noodles. She was served her vegetable of onions, zucchini, and a mushroom half. (Yes I said a mushroom half, that is what each of us got.) She was never served shrimp. She had gone off to the bathroom while he was cooking because as I said before, the experience was no good and she was bored. When she came back, no shrimp. We began the search for someone to help us since the "chef" was gone. After staring out over the restaurant for 4-5 minutes I let the server at the next grill/table know. He asked me if he was my server. I explained that he was not my server however I had not seen mine in a while and I was just looking for some help. After much conversation between the two of us about what she looked like, he disappeared into the back room. Our waitress came out in a flurry reading the ticket she had wrote exclaiming to my 11 year old daughter it was on the ticket so she had no idea why he didn't giver her shrimp. They figured it out, he forgot, they asked the other "chef" at the next grill to make some for her and he did. She may have been better off just looking at the shrimp rather than tasting it. It was nice big shrimp with little to no flavor. She ate 2 of the 8 they gave her and we boxed the rest out of politeness to throw away when we got home. After eating, the bill was $94. I provided a $16 tip which was more than the server and "chef" deserved but less than the usual amount I would give. Especially at these places where you are tipping for the service as well as the show. It should easily have been 25-30% tip however with no refills, missed shrimp, no show, and a missing waitress for what seemed like an eternity when your looking for her, I could not do it. On a side note, I left my credit card there. When I figured it out, I called. The manager answered and told me he was busy and not near the register so I would need to call back in 20 minutes and he would look for it. I did not pick my card up from the check folder. My fault I know. When that happens though , I would expect a little empathy form the manager, and maybe a sense of urgency in finding it. I drove over there which took about 15 minutes and called again. Someone else had it and after verifying my ID, they returned it. TL;DR - This place was not good on that night and now I won't go back.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! We didn't even get our sushi until everyone else had already gotten all of their food and that was 52 MINUTES after my wife had posted a picture of the menu on Facebook. The manager had the gall to offer to take off my wife's beer for the hassle. They did eventually admit how crappy the situation was and remedied it. The chef who cooked everything for the rest of the table was excellent. But this situation left a bad taste in my mouth. Not a great way to promote your business to someone from out of town.

We almost didn't go to Tepanyaki because reviews that we read weren't very good. I am so glad that we decided to give it a try anyhow. The entire experience was great. The server, Travis, was awesome. In fact, maybe one of the most attentive and knowledgeable servers we have ever had anywhere. The chefs were fun and did a really good job. The food was delicious. You must try the Filet Mignon, it was amazing. Don't listen to the negative reviews and if you go, ask for Travis. He will take very good care of you. Enjoy!!' If I had to say one semi-negative thing, the atmosphere is just okay! But they still get an A for effort because they have done a lot of remodeling and have tried to change it as much as they could, without gutting it and starting over. We will be going again soon!

Fantastic food, fantastic servers. Some of the best hibachi (which is my favorite), but the sushi is out of this world as well. Vic, the manager will always take care of you and your guest. I'm high maintance so I require a lot. The chefs entertain instead of just cook and the atmosphere invites a smile. Favorite grand junction (any occasion) restaurant.

My husband and I had the chicken and shrimp hibachi, respectively, and both were very good (someone else at our table ordered the filet and it looked terrific). The hibachi veggies were also very good: perfectly cooked. We also ordered a miso soup, the Red Dragon roll, Layton Snap roll, and the shrimp tempura appetizer. I would order it all again.

Obviously a sushi place in the middle of Colorado won't be the best sushi ever. But this sushi was really bad...gas station sushi bad. The soup, which I was told they are well known for, was unflavorful and bland. It was one of those places that must just have novelty, because I don't know what else is going for it.

The 5 stars is for this place being in Junction. I'm from large areas/cities (see southern Orange County and San Diego respectively), and this place actually keeps up. The service from our waiter was amazing, the lady who worked the sushi area was a bit forgetful, but at least the teppan food was good. My rating of 5 stars is purely for the hibachi/teppan style cooking. I have been to probably 12ish in my life and this one ranks up there. We got one of the combos for couples and it was a bit pricey but the quality was there. We did order a few rolls of sushi but they were quite lacking in rice and size, especially for the price. My husband, friends and I all prefer Suehiro's sushi, but the hot food here was pretty exceptional, at least when we went. Fingers crossed the quality and taste maintain their current levels...something that somehow always seems to decline in GJ. Skip the edamame, it's good but very small, especially for the price. Awesome perk that since they ran out of the wine my husband wanted, they didn't charge him for the 3/4 glass he got! How's that for service?! We ended up spending about $100 for 2 ppl, but it was well worth it. The filet mignon melted in our mouths, the chicken was not dry, and the shrimp were succulent. Our hibachi/teppan chef was pretty funny and masterful at being able to do the traditional table tricks you see with the food. He ended up having extra shrimp and would toss them with a spatula into customers' mouths. Quite the hit. We all got a laugh :) Definitely go if you like delicious foods and fun atmospheres. It may be pricey for kids, but it's definitely got the "wow" factor, especially for GJ.

Considering that it is on airport hotel row in a small town, this place is a gem. We were lucky enough to arrive early and get immediate seating - by the time we left (around 7) the line to get in was impressive. Food was good, especially the filet mignon, and the house Pinot grigio was decent. The Anglo chef put on a pretty good show. If you are overnighting in a nearby hotel, you should try it out unless you have Applebee tastes. $71 plus tip got us an appetizer to share, two combo dinners, two glasses of wine.

This is a local hibachi-style steakhouse in the tradition of Benihana, etc. I am a fan of this sort of place, but this particular one was just OK. I had a couple of orders of nigiri sushi, which was pretty standard as far as what you will find this far inland. I also had the New York strip, with the accompanying salad, some fried rice and veggies. The steak and fried rice were pretty good; again, pretty middle of the road for this style of food. The salad dressing (really one of the best things about a place like Benihana) was an odd mayonnaise concoction that was very unappetizing. This place only gets 2 stars because although the food was basically passable, the prices were more in line with what you would pay for much better food at almost any competing hibachi steak place I have ever been to.

Great food, good service but could be a little quicker. Amazing sushi ( Green Tiger Roll = changing peoples minds about sushi in a great way!) This is now our families new favorite place to eat on special occasions-$$$. Dinner for 5 plus a couple sushi rolls and a couple saki bombs and a decent tip $160ish.

It's different from the usual, and most of the food was well cooked and flavorful, so it wasn't a terrible experience, but it wasn't great, either. The customer service was nonexistent. We waited at a table in the bar area for about 20 minutes for a hibachi seat, which wouldn't have been bad but we were apparently invisible over there. Fifteen of those minutes were spent standing at the bar trying to get someone's attention to order drinks and sushi. We finally got someone to take our order and bring us iced tea but got called to our table before the sushi came. We told two people at the sushi bar - including the one we ordered from - that we were being seated and they told us they'd bring the sushi to the table. We also told the waitress at our table that we had already ordered sushi when she was taking orders for everyone else's appetizers and sushi. And despite reminding her twice, the sushi never did come - even though everyone else's did. The waitress didn't make it to the table very often, and frequently forgot refills or chopsticks or other things that people requested. Some people at our table didn't get their drinks until after the food was prepared and they were halfway done eating. Our chef was distracted and looking at the kitchen most of the time, waiting for missing ingredients. He gave most of the obligatory parts of the performance but was not engaged or nearly as entertaining as the chef at the other table. He completely forgot crab legs that two people on the other side of the table had ordered (even though they were on the cart) and had to come back after he was done to prepare those. What he did remember to cook, though, was mostly tasty and well-prepared. The vegetables and rice were very good. Noodles were a little mushy but ok. Two people in our group had the steak and it was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. Scallops were excellent. Shrimp were a bit rubbery and not as good, but not terrible. The halibut was a huge disappointment - it was a terrible cut with several large bones in it and a pocket of unidentifiable slimy stuff that made it inedible after that point. Overall, it was interesting and different but because of the terrible service and hit-or-miss quality of the food, we are not likely to ever go back or recommend it to anyone. There are other experience-type sushi restaurants in town that have better service and better quality for the price.

Great sushi, awful service. We waited for someone to come take our drink order for over 15 minutes. The sushi chef took it upon himself to take our order because we were waiting so long. When a waitress finally came and brought us waters, she rolled her eyes at me when i told her we had placed our order with the chef...then she never came back to check on us. And we had to hunt down someone for our check...20 minutes after we finished our meal. Good food, but unfortunately not impressed with the service.

Well could have been better when it comes to customer service for sure. Went here for a birthday on Thursday and we walked in and no one greeted us. We stood there for 10 MIN!!! After realizing no was going to help us we sat at a table in the bar area to wait to get a seat around one of the grills. After about another 5 min or so someone finally came over and asked if we wanted menus. We ordered our sushi rolls while sitting. When we got sat around the grill things absolutely started to get better. We got our rolls and they were amazing. The drinks took awhile to get to our table but we're delish. Once he got the hibachi cook it was worth coming in. He was entertaining to say the least. He cooked great food and made funny jokes. The shrimp toss was fun as well. I had the steak and scallops with noodles. Everything was was cooked perfect and super yummy. If they could do something about customer service, this would have been 5 stars.

We had excellent service, however the atmosphere was very lacking. We chose not to sit at a group table and was ushered to a table without a tablecloth next to a dirty window. My husband's food looked exactly like mine except the meat was different. It was not plated in a very creative way. I had chicken teriyaki and it was a little dry. My husband had a martini and he said that it was better than most places in the valley. So there you go! The overall price was a bit high for what you get.

This place is ridiculous. We made a reservation for 7 pm around 1pm and was assured our reservation was made. When we got there, we were told it il would be about 15 minutes past our confirmed time. No big deal. We waited 20 minutes, and was still not seated. We were then informed that it would be another hour! Why take a reservation if you are are not going to honor it ??!! I wish I could post this with 0 stars!

Sushi, this far from the coast? It's great! The servers are laid back, the atmosphere is sort of cheap and dated, but the food.....outstanding.

I have to say our experience at this restaurant was less than desirable! First we had made reservations for 6 p.m. sharp we arrive 5-10 minutes early, only to find that they just continue to make reservations without thought of the number of chairs available. We ended up waiting 45 minutes past our reservation time before we were seated. Send despite the best efforts of the waitress to form the cook that I was allergic to mushrooms he still brought them out among all the other vegetables. I ended up getting something from the back which they told me they were not charging me for my meal and then I ended up paying for the meal! In short as much as I love the show it was not a good experience. On the upside the waitress Morgan was great and my grandsons enjoy the show

Mediocre. Soft shell crab was gross. Sushi was decent, but over priced. Should have gone to pizza Hut next door

Tepen wasn't bad but not great either. Both steak and chicken tasted low grade with lots of connective tissue. We ordered sushi as a appetizer which came out with the meal instead of before as ordered. Sushi was better then other places I've had in junction, fish tasted fresh, rice was clean and properly cooked, rolls were wrapped tightly. I'd give them 65% on presentation. They were out of Captain Morgan Rum. Decor was dated and very run down. Staff was friendly and polite but our hibachi chef was not very talkative our interactive, however there was a chef at another table that really got the crowd going and everyone seemed to have a good time. So it's a real hit and miss on your experience. Price was a little above average for the quality and experience but want terrible. Over all I'd give it a second chance but would not have high expectations.

First and last experience last week - I had shrimp hibachi with vegetables. The shrimp was tasteless, tough and nasty. It came on a sloppy pile of cabbage and bean sprouts and a few pieces of misc. vegetables. The waiter was a nice kid but inattentive, never came back to check on the food. I waited for a long time for the check, even though there were people waiting for tables. Would not suggest this restaurant as there are many other good choices in the area.
